Dijon Diversion

Cathedral of St. Benignus, Dijon

I headed south to Dijon.  It's another city founded by the Romans as a stop on the Lyon-Paris route.  It was further developed by the Dukes of Burgundy who made Dijon their home for a few hundred years.

Dijon is a smaller city which is very manageable to navigate and there are several pedestrian areas.  The Cathedral of St. Benignus (which houses the relics of the first Bishop of Dijon who brought the Catholic Faith to there) is over a thousand years old and is a pre-gothic structure.  I was lucky enough to con-celebrate the Mass on Monday night there.  On Tuesday morning I was at the 9AM Mass at the Basilica of Notre Dame.

Today the city is known for its cuisine, museums and many of its buildings that have survived both fire and war through the centuries.  Outside the city are many places for camping, hiking and swimming.
